This tool was not designed to be pretty, it was designed to scrape animal skins, a function it performed perfectly.
Many were made on hammer-stones that were broken during the Flintknapping process, evident by the lighter coloured impact marks on the rounded ends. The broken hammers were then flaked to produce a scraping edge, rather than a cutting edge.
